New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony told ESPN Radio he’s “very likely” throwing in the towel after the All-Star Game.

After dodging questions about his upcoming status for weeks, Carmelo Anthony told EPSN Radio it’s “very likely” he’ll sit out for the rest of this season following the All-Star Game.

“I got to start thinking about the future,” Anthony said.

Anthony has been stifled by left knee soreness for several months and aggravated the injury Monday in the loss against the Miami Heat, when he dropped 26 points.

The small forward sat out Wednesday as he watched his team fall to the lackluster Orlando Magic. The Knicks entered the break with the league’s worst record of 10-43.

In what’s been a pitifully disappointing season, Anthony is making the right decision to not risk further injury. He missed six consecutive games due to his knee, and he’s considering surgery to repair the knee.

Still, he said he wants to play the All-Star Game “even if it’s just a few minutes,” in particular because it’s taking place at Madison Square Garden.

The eight-time All Star and six-time All-NBA Team member has averaged 24.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 40 games this season.

Count your losses, Knicks, and let Anthony rehab that knee for next season.
