Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers said that it is a “travesty” that big man DeAndre Jordan wasn’t selected to be an All-Star this season.

DeAndre Jordan is one of the best defensive big men in the NBA, but his offensive game has made other players more attractive for the All-Star game than him throughout his career. That was the case once again this year, and head coach Doc Rivers isn’t happy about it.

“I think DJ should be on the All-Star team. I think it’s a travesty. I really do,” Rivers said. “I just think that a guy who is getting 27 [rebounds] and 22 [points vs. Dallas on Monday] and 20s and 20s [should] be on the team.”

If Jordan were putting up 27 rebounds and 22 points more often, then Rivers would have a great point. However, that has not been the case this season. Jordan is averaging 10.7 points and 13.8 rebounds, while also chipping in with 2.4 blocks per game.

There is no question that he is one of the most talented big men in the NBA, but he’s not an All-Star. Who would he replace on the All-Star roster? DeMarcus Cousins, Tim Duncan, and LaMarcus Aldridge are all more deserving of an All-Star nod over him.

Rivers is supposed to fight for his players, but to say that it is a “travesty” is a bit of a joke.

At 26 years of age, Jordan still has plenty of time left to improve his offensive game and become a more consistent option. His defense and rebounding will always be top-notch, but he simply isn’t as complete of a player as those who got the All-Star nod over him.

The Los Angeles Clippers looks like a legitimate contender in the Western Conference so far this season, and currently has a 35-19 record which is good enough for the sixth seed in the conference. That isn’t necessarily where they want to be, but they’ll take it at this point in time.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if the Clippers are able to remain in the playoff race or if they begin falling apart. The Phoenix Suns aren’t too far behind them, and neither are the Oklahoma City Thunder who are trying to get back into the race. There is going to be plenty of drama down the stretch of the season, and the Clippers are going to be right in the middle of it.

All of that being said, Jordan didn’t deserve to make the All-Star game this season and the teams are exactly what they should be.
