Heinz continues Sriracha craze with new Sriracha-Flavored ketchup.

He’s a long-loved traditionalist from Pittsburgh. She’s a hot and spicy Asian mouthful of fun. Together Heinz Ketchup and Sriracha have decided to marry their flavors together to raise a new condiment with a kung-fu kick.

Watch TheStreet correspondent, Jon Kostakopoulos lose his mind in enthusiastic glee announcing the product.

Heinz has a variety of flavors of its ketchups. Heinz brand manager Joseph Giallenella said in a recent company press release:

"“We are thrilled to announce that Heinz Tomato Ketchup Blended with Sriracha Flavor will join the beloved Heinz Ketchup portfolio.“The new offering adds a new kick to your favorite foods and recipes, pairing well with cheeseburgers, French fries and hot dogs, and is the perfect flavor boost for chicken and eggs.”"

Sriracha has been around for years to hot sauce aficionados and Thai food enthusiasts in the know, but it’s popularity continues to grow. Sales of the green capped red sauce have grown from $60 million to $80 million for Huey Fong Foods in just the past two years.  Sadly, David Tran of the family owned company isn’t able to cash in on the Sriracha flavor food craze as he never trademarked the name, Sriracha.

This of course has opened the flood gates for numerous Sriracha flavored products. Rogue Brewery has a Sriracha Hot Stout Beer. There are Sriracha flavored chips, vodka, beef jerky, chocolate even clothing. Instead, of being bitter over lost revenue Tran is thrilled with the publicity for his sauce.

The combination of ketchup and Sriracha is a smart move by Heinz. However, in our mind nothing can beat the real thing.

Nice one, grandma.
