John Cena’s eye injury was real; added to story

A recent update provides more details on the eye injury allegedly sustained by John Cena

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, John Cena’s recent “eye injury” was apparently partly real and partly due to the storyline. But mostly real.

The company has decided to take advantage to Cena’s injury and add it to the story.

According to their report, the professional wrestler suffered “a corneal abrasion” during the February 1st taping of WWE Live Events. Though the injury was noticeable, Cena was able to work on February 2nd. The situation worsened though — as it is apt to do when you wrestle and beat up other dudes for a living — forcing Cena to sit out the February 8th taping of Live Events.

He was also unable to compete on Monday Night Raw on February 9th.

At first, it seemed that fellow wrestler and U.S. Champion Rusev was indeed the cause of the injury, after throwing Cena face first into an LED light board on the stage. Utilizing this angle, the company used the Bulgarian Brute to go after the westler’s eye during the taping in order to give him time to heal.

Cena discussed his injury at a recent press conference saying:

"“The WWE is being extra cautious. A scratched cornea is basically like a scratch on the surface of your eye. I’ve had this injury multiple times. My vision is blurry, it did not effect my driving [around Yas Marina], I was not the one to get lapped over here. As always I like to show up and go and I will be ready tonight and for all three nights.”"

With that, fans can expect Cena to compete all throughout the February 12th – 15th tour, and also be in the ring during Fastlane.
