Ray Allen is expected to make a decision on his future in the NBA next week, but he reportedly hasn’t yet come to a conclusion on whether to return or retire.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors will be watching the phones very closely this upcoming week. Not only is it the NBA Trade Deadline, but it’s the Ray Allen Deadline as well with less than a week left before the veteran is expected to make a decision on whether to return for a 19th season or call it a career.

More from Atlanta Hawks

It has been a closely watched story ever since the Cleveland Cavaliers brought back LeBron James this summer, as it was generally assumed Allen would be signing alongside his old teammate and returning for one more season and one more run at a title.

Yet, here we sit six months later and no progress at all has been made. While a decision is expected to come one way or the other next week, Brian Windhorst from ESPN reports that Allen is still up in the air about what he wants to do.

“I talked with Ray Allen’s agent this week,” Windhorst told ESPN Cleveland. “He’s said he hasn’t decided whether he wants to play or not.”

That’s pretty much where we’ve been the entire year with Ray Allen. He’s in when people say he’s in — until someone says he’s not. Windhorst went as far as to say that if Allen returns, he may not end up signing with the Cavalies since their eight-man rotation and limited minutes aren’t the most appealing sales pitches to bring him back.

Only Ray Allen knows what Ray Allen will do — and it appears that with the clock ticking on a decision, not even the man himself knows what will happen.
