The Carolina Panthers are bumping up their ticket prices for the second straight year.

Now that the Carolina Panthers have won back-to-back NFC South division titles, they figured they’ll keep the theme going and go back-to-back years of raising their ticket prices.

According to NBC’s Pro Football Talk, the Panthers use to sneak in raises in ticket prices during the ACC basketball tournament, hoping fans would be too distracted to notice. This year, however, they decided to raise them right before Valentine’s day. Maybe they thought they’d let people know about the raise in ticket prices before V-Day so that people can get their priorities straight.

‘No honey, we can’t go out for dinner this year, we have to save up for Panthers’ tickets.’

Even though this is the second straight year the Panthers have raised ticket prices, the organization hadn’t raised ticket prices since 2010 before they did so last year. Winning back-to-back division titles is definitely a reason that would attribute to the raise in ticket prices. When the team is successful, there’s more interest to come see the team play, which increases demand for the tickets.

It could also be something that new General Manager Dave Gettleman wanted to address when he first came in to the organization. Perhaps he came in and felt that the ticket prices were a bit on the low side and felt that the team could be missing out on more possible revenue to help pay players and staff.

According to TiqIQ Blog, the Panthers were ranked 20th in the NFL in average ticket prices going into the 2014 season. The Panthers plan to increase the cost of most of the seats by $2 to $5 dollars for the 2015 season. There is also a small section of 2,200 seats that will be going up by $30. This is most likely a premium seats section.

Even with these raises, the Panthers still expect to be right around the middle of the pack when it comes to average ticket prices. They may jump up a few spots, but they should still be in the bottom half of the league.

Unfortunately for fans, this is how it works. When your team becomes more successful, there becomes more demand to go see the team play, which is going to bump up ticket prices. However, with all the suffering the Panthers fans have gone through over the last decade or so, I think they’ll take the slight raise in ticket prices for a successful team.
