The Houston Texans would like to re-sign star cornerback Kareem Jackson, and he made it clear that he would like to return as well.

Kareem Jackson was a very key piece for the Houston Texans this past season, and he had a very versatile season that showed the “star” potential that he possesses. Unfortunately for the Texans, he is hitting the open free agency market this offseason and there are plenty of teams that are going to have interest in signing him.

That being said, Jackson did make it clear that he would like to return to Houston if the opportunity and situation was right.

“I’d love to be back here,” Jackson said. “What Coach O’Brien has brought here with the coaches and stuff like that, with the system and stuff like that, I definitely want to be a part of what’s starting to happen last year and progressing into the future.”

It will be interesting to see if Jackson is still saying that type of thing when he sees what type of money teams will be offering to him. Houston can be very competitive on the free agent market, but they likely won’t be willing to spend as much money as some other teams who are looking to make free agency splashes. This is Jackson’s first big payday opportunity, and he can’t allow himself to get caught up with the numbers thrown his direction.

During the 2014 season, Jackson ended up recording 57 tackles, three interceptions, and nine broken up passes.

Those numbers may not look too impressive, but he was a great coverage cornerback. He made it difficult on opposing receivers each and every week, and was still able to make some key plays. Houston’s defense desperately needs him back next season, or they will risk falling even farther down the defensive rankings against the pass.

Jackson also talked about the support that the Texans gave him, and how he feels about them giving him a chance and believing in his ability.

“They’ve always been in my corner,” Jackson said. “It’s always been positive from them and from me. it’s just one of those things. You have growing pains, but at the end of the day, you get to a point and you’re comfortable.”

Needless to say, this is going to be a very crucial free agency for both the Texans and Jackson. His heart remains in Houston, but the Texans are going to have to be willing to pay him in order to bring him back. Both sides want to make something happen, but when free agency opens up anything is possible.
