Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James explained to the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade why has never entered the dunk contest, saying the event isn’t his “flavor.”

NBA fans have long asked for Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James to enter the dunk contest. However, James has never obliged and has made it clear that he will never do so.

Considering how athletic and how great of an in-game dunker James is, his lack of participation in the dunk contest has always been confusing. The four-time MVP tried to shed some light into why he’ll never enter the event when speaking with his friend and Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade on Friday.

Head to the 2:00 mark of the below video to see his comments:

While James claims the dunk contest isn’t his “flavor,” he might not be telling the whole truth. James spoke about the dunk contest in a separate interview on Friday, according to NBA.com, and appeared to express some regret in never participating.

"“When I first came into the league, I expected that I would do it,” James said at Friday’s All-Star Weekend media day. “I did. I did for sure. But it just never happened. I don’t know why. There was times when I wanted to do it and didn’t do it and there was times when I just didn’t really care about it too much. But it definitely would have been pretty cool to do.”"

We may never truly know why James hasn’t and won’t get involved with the dunk contest. Perhaps he’s afraid of losing and the embarrassment that would come with it. Whatever the reason, it’s a real shame for basketball fans everywhere that we’ll never get to see LeBron give it a shot.
