The Houston Rockets are looking to acquire Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic ahead of the February 19th trading deadline.

Goran Dragic has been a very popular name in trade rumors so far this season, and it appears that he has a good chance to be dealt ahead of the February 19th NBA trading deadline. According to a report a couple of days ago from Gery Woelfel, the Phoenix Suns would like to acquire a first-round pick in a trade for Dragic.

According to a report from Marc Stein of ESPN, the Houston Rockets are looking to acquire the point guard with under a week remaining before the trade deadline hits.

Houston has already been a very active team this season, acquiring Corey Brewer in a trade and signing Josh Smith after he was cut. Adding a legitimate point guard like Dragic would be a huge upgrade for the Rockets, and would make them an even more serious contender in the Western Conference. It has not been mentioned who the Rockets would have to send to Phoenix to make the trade work, but the two sides could definitely figure something out.

Dragic would immediately improve the Rockets’ offense, which has been a major issue this year. James Harden is one of the candidates to win the league’s MVP award, but he hasn’t had much consistent help.

One of the main issues in Houston has been the lack of teamwork. They are improving as the season goes along, but are ranked 13th in the league in assists per game. Dragic may not average a ton of assists, but he is a more than capable playmaker for his teammates.

Throughout the season to this point, Dragic has averaged 16.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game. He has shot 50.1 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from behind the three-point arc.

If the Suns are serious about trading Dragic, then he will likely be gone ahead of the trade deadline. The Rockets are just one of the teams that are searching for a point guard upgrade.

There are some things to be leery about for teams looking to acquire Dragic from the Suns. First of all, he does have the option to become a free agent following this season and has said in the past that he plans to explore free agency. That would mean that any team that acquires him could be getting him as a half-season rental.

All of that being said, the Rockets are likely still going to pursue Dragic hard up until the deadline. Phoenix is currently the eighth seed in the playoffs, but their three guard rotation hasn’t been working for them. Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas are both on new deals, which makes Dragic the most likely trade candidate.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors with Dragic’s name attached over the next week up until the deadline next Thursday.
