LeBron James will become the first Vice President of the NBA Players Association following election results on Friday
LeBron James is already the most powerful and polarizing members of the NBA, and has been for quite some time, but on Friday he has become even more of a force in the league, moving into a senior leadership role.
According to a report from Yahoo Sports and Adrian Wojnarowski, James has been elected the first Vice President in the history of the NBA Players Association.
"LeBron James has been elected first Vice President of the NBPA, league source tells Yahoo Sports. This moves James into senior leadership of the Players Association. Voting is underway at this hour in an NBPA meeting in New York."
With the historic move, James now becomes the second-in-command, so to speak, to NBAPA President Chris Paul, who was elected to the post back in 2013.
For the players, this is ultimately a huge win, especially given how James is perceived among those in the league. LeBron is one of the more overall respected figures in the NBA, and now he sits in a post where he can help others in a pretty big way.
Having James and Paul sitting where they do right now in the NBPA structure is relatively something new. The top two people in the union are superstar players in their primes, whereas top seats in the union generally used to go to veteran players at the end of their careers, as they had more time on their hands to deal with the issues that needed to be dealt with.
But, as with anything else, times change, and times today see LeBron James as one of the most powerful figures in the players association.
