For Westbrook it’s a strong step forward in building a career outside of basketball. With the first ever NBA fashion show during All-Star Weekend in New York City, players are finally getting a chance to show off some of the latest fashion trends.
For Westbrook, this is his chance in a big market to put his latest fashion endeavor on display. With a strong media presence around him during the NBA’s Media Day, Westbrook was asked about what he wears along with what others wear.
"“Just being myself,” he said. “Going with how I’m feeling for that particular day. Confident, and wearing what I like.”When asked who the best-dressed NBA All-Star is, Westbrook paused for a few seconds, then declared:“Myself.”But Westbrook wasn’t all confidence. When asked who the worst-dressed NBA All-Star was, he admitted, “Myself at times, too.”"
With NBA players like Russell Westbrook and others getting into the world of fashion, the NBA is ahead of other sports with their players getting involved in the industry.
It’s great business for the league and Westbrook alike going forward as it can lead to key sponsorships and partnerships for the league along with allowing players to grow their own personal brand off the court.
Whether you like Westbrook’s outfits or not, it can’t be denied that he has a keen eye for fashion and he has become the current fashion guru in the NBA.
NBA All-Star Weekend used to be about players participating in skills competitions on the court and the best of the west meeting the best of the east. Now it’s evolved into something far greater, a giant weekend of brand marketing for the league.
Russell Westbrook is the perfect player to lead the way into this new venture.
