Anthony Davis was complimentary of this year’s undefeated Kentucky team but stopped short of saying they could beat his 2012 Wildcats squad.

The Kentucky Wildcats are the only undefeated men’s college basketball team and are head and shoulders above the second-best team in the nation and look poised to cut down the nets in early April.

Heck, John Calipari’s second team may be a Final Four team, of which he’s had three Final Four teams in the last four years and five overall, including the 2012 team that won the national title.

That 2012 team featured Wooden Award winner Anthony Davis and future No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft and No. 2 overall pick, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist as well as fellow first round picks, Terrence Jones and Marquis Teague and second round picks in Doron Lamb and Darius Miller.

Davis was unstoppable in his only year with Kentucky when he averaged 14.2 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game while shooting 62.3 percent from the field en route to a 38-2 record and a national championship.

When Davis was asked at the NBA All-Star Weekend on Saturday f this year’s Kentucky team was better than his team he didn’t mince his words when he said his team would “destroy” this year’s team.

What else would you expect him to say?

Do you think he would say, “Our 2012 team was really special and accomplished a lot for the university, but this year’s team would wipe the floor with us.”

Of course not, but it makes for a great bar room debate about which team is best.

This year’s Kentucky team could go undefeated, something Davis’ team wasn’t able to do when they lost to Indiana and Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament, but even if they are perfect and cut the nets down, I have to say the 2012 team would beat the 2015 team.

I don’t know if they would “destroy” them as Davis said, but I think they would win a best of seven series in five games or less. This year’s team wouldn’t be able to slow down Davis who is already one of the three best players in the NBA.

What do you think?
