Seattle Seahawks superstar running back Marshawn Lynch could be forced to retire from football due to chronic back issues that he has been dealing with.

Marshawn Lynch is without a doubt one of the most dominant players in the NFL, and is coming off of yet another big season with the Seattle Seahawks. He was a huge part of their success, but unfortunately wasn’t given the football on the goal line to win the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots.

There have been quite a few rumors since the end of the season that Lynch could end up retiring from football. If that does indeed happen, it will likely be because of the health issues that he has been dealing with. According to a report from NFL.com, Lynch could be forced to retire due to chronic back issues.

During the 2014 season Lynch compiled 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns on 280 carries. Those numbers tell you all you need to know about what type of impact he had on the Seahawks’ offense last year.

Russell Wilson is a great quarterback, but he wouldn’t have had nearly the type of success that he has had throughout the first three years of his career. Having a dominant running game has been a huge help, and Lynch has always found ways to come through for his team when they need him the most.

Seattle needs to find an heir apparent to Lynch with all of these issues beginning to come up about his future and health. One idea that has been tossed around is the Seahawks drafting Todd Gurley to replace him. It would make a lot of sense and they are a very similar type of running back.

No matter what ends up happening, Lynch has had an impressive career. His running style doesn’t help his back problems, but he will never change being aggressive and working hard for every yard he can get.

At this point in time, Lynch is expected to play for at least one more season. That being said, if his back continues getting worse and doctors tell him he shouldn’t play, then he might be forced to call it a career. Hopefully that doesn’t happen this offseason, and he can play at least one more year.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Lynch and the Seahawks this coming offseason. They would likely be interested in extending his contract, but if Lynch is considering retirement then that option might be off the table.
