This is a deep running back class, and we are going to discuss another running back that has a lot of potential.  Mike Davis is the workhorse back from South Carolina, who is very impressive on film. Davis is a back that you should keep an eye on, because he is currently not getting as much buzz as he should. Which means he could be had for a discount compared to his talent when it comes to your rookie draft.

Film Review

Mike Davis is a very fun back to watch. He has a lot of burst and some wiggle to his game. He hits the hole very hard and fights for every yard that he can get. He is a very good receiver, and he catches a lot of passes out of the backfield. He displays his explosiveness in the open field. Davis is listed at 5’9 223, and it’s going to be very interesting to see what he measures out at during the combine. He looks compact and thick on tape while still looking very athletic. Davis was dealing with some injuries during the 2014 season, so he didn’t look as explosive in some of his games like he did during the previous season. I believe that Davis is flying under the radar currently, and his ability to catch passes could make him an asset in fantasy.

College Production

Davis had a very productive sophomore season (20 years old) rushing for 1,183 yards and 11 TDs, which made him one of the most decorated college running backs heading into the 2014 season. Injuries derailed some of Davis’ production, but he was still able to finish the season with a decent year. During his junior season (21 years old) he was able to rush for 982 yards and 9 TDs. The numbers for his junior season weren’t very impressive, but he showed that he is able to play through injuries and still be productive. Running backs get hurt a lot in the NFL, and being able to play through injuries is a positive trait because it demonstrates that it’s going to take a major injury to make the running back sit out.

Player Value

Davis is going to be drafted anywhere in between the 2nd and the 4th round. The combine is going to be very important for him because it will give him the chance to display his explosiveness and speed. Davis is being undervalued currently, and he may experience a rise in value between now and draft day. Davis is very good at catching the football, and if he is able to get playing time early on in his career he could contribute to your fantasy team. Davis could be a late 1st round pick in your rookie draft if he gets drafted to a good situation, and he could go as low as the late 2nd round if he goes to a bad situation where he is stuck behind a stud running back. Situation is going to be key for his fantasy value.
