The Louisville Cardinals suffered a severe upset at home on Saturday at the hands of the NC State Wolfpack
When youāre one of the top teams in the country, like the Louisville Cardinals, you want to try and cruise through the month of February unscathed to go into March with as much momentum as possible.
Well, Rick Pitino and his team failed at that mission on Saturday afternoon, as the No. 9 Cardinals were downed at home by NC State, 74-65.
Guard Anthony Barber took charge for the Wolfpack in this one, finishing the afternoon with 21 points, two rebounds and four assists. Two more NC State starters finished in double figures, with Trevor Lacey dropping in 14 points and Ralston Turner adding in 10.
The second half was key for the Wolfpack in this one, as Louisville held a 31-30 lead going into the half, and for the most part, they were controlling things on both ends of the floor.
However, the second half was pretty much all NC State, especially down the stretch where it mattered the most.
With the loss now, Louisville drops to 20-5 on the season and will more than likely fall out of the Top 10 when the new AP rankings are released on Monday. Also, this late in the season, seeding is going to become a concern, unless they can really turn it back on in the coming weeks.
NC State moved to 15-11 with the win, keeping their March hopes somewhat alive for the time being.
