The NBA trade deadline is right around the corner and that means more and more names are going to be mentioned in possible deals — like Isaiah Thomas and the Phoenix Suns.

The NBA trade deadline is this week and that means the number of names being mentioned in deals isn’t about to go down anytime soon. One of the teams looking to make a deal are the Phoenix Suns, who will be shopping around players to find a deal they think fortifies their roster for the postseason.

Goran Dragic seems to be one of the hot names on the market at the moment, but he’s not the guard that the Suns are trying to trade before the deadline arrives and passes.

According to Marc Stein from ESPN.com, the Phoenix Suns are more interested in trading away Isaiah Thomas than they are moving Goran Dragic before the deadline this upcoming week.

This is a move that both makes some sense while also being rather confusing. The Suns have a logjam of guards and need to figure out which ones have priority over others in the lineup. Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe are the top two options but Thomas is a young and budding star who was just recently acquired by the Suns this offseason.

Thomas came over in a sign-and-trade with the Sacramento Kings, but he hasn’t fit in well with the Suns. Phoenix likely prefers to carry Bledsoe as a starter while Goran Dragic plays out his contract and tests free agency this summer. Tyler Ennis is also on roster as a guard of the future which is all the more reason for the Suns to jettison Thomas in a trade that nets them as much profit as they can hope for given what Thomas has been able to do in his short time with the team.
