The New York Jets had a rough season last year, and the purge of all things wrong with the organization continues with Michael Vick and Chris Johnson.

It wasn’t a fun year last season for the New York Jets, as the team fell on hard times in just about every way possible and ended things by firing their head coach and purging the front office of everyone who did the team wrong. Now comes the inevitable purge of the players those now fired coaches and executives brought on over the past few years.

As the Jets prepare to make moves like pursuing Demaryius Thomas and other top free agents, as well as scouring the draft for the next great class, veterans who were brought on to fill holes will be jettisoned as failed experiments.

According to Metro New York, who spoke to a league source, both quarterback Michael Vick and running back Chris Johnson are expected to be released and not brought back for the 2015 season.

Vick was already expected to be gone, but with a new head coach an a brutal quarterback situation, nothing could be ruled out. As for Chris Johnson, he was a huge disappointment for a majority of the season for the Jets, despite being perhaps more productive than he was in his final years with the Titans.

Both players were once stars of the game — in the not so distant past — but both are now so low on the free agent totem pole that not even the Jets want to keep them around.

That’s not to say they won’t find work, as both players still have plenty left in the tank. But the Jets are overhauling more than just the coaching stand and these two big names likely won’t be the last to leave New York before this purge is over.
