After just one season — a massively disappointing one — the New York Jets are pulling the plug on their Chris Johnson experiment. It was an easy decision when considering the money on the books for Johnson as well as the people who brought Johnson in.
Both Rex Ryan and John Idzik — the duo behind bringing Johnson in — are gone. Narutally, so too is Johnson now that Todd Bowles is in charge and the new regime is taking over.
Johnson will now try to sell himself to a team in need of a second running back in a tandem or a backup runner to come off the bench as a change of pace back.
His days of being known as CJ2K are long over, but there is still tread on his tires. How much tread is the question, and that’s something that many teams around the NFL will be asking themselves. Teams like the Raiders, Vikings and even the Texans or Packers could look to grab Johnson at a bargain to see if there is anything left in his tank.
He may not be a 2,000 yard rusher, but he may have a few 1,000 yard seasons left in him and putting that into a tandem is something that could end up working out really well for someone.
