Derek Jeter is really enjoying his retirement, so much so that he will not be in attendance for the Yankees’ Opening Day
Derek Jeter ended his illustrious career with the New York Yankees last season after 20 seasons with the most storied Major League club of all-time. While 2014 marked the end of the playing days of Jeter, he is still and will always be a large part of the Yankees family. He’ll still be around the team from time to time.

However, he apparently won’t be with the team when they begin their first campaign without him this season.
Jeter sat down with Sirius XM Radio on Saturday and when posed the question of whether or not he will be inside the confines of Yankee Stadium on April 6 when the Yanks open up the year against the division rival Toronto Blue Jays, possibly to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, Jeter noted that he won’t even be within the confines of the United States, much less his former baseball home.
“I think actually I’ll be out of the country,” Jeter told SiriusXM on Saturday via MLB.com.
As the interview went on, however, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that at least for the first season of his retirement, Yankees fans might not be seeing Jeter that much at all, as he just wants to enjoy his life away from the game that has consumed him for most of his existence on this earth.
“I need to get away,” Jeter said. “I’ve been playing this game professionally for parts of 23 seasons, so I need to get away from it.”
While some loyal Yankees supporters might get frustrated over the thought of maybe not seeing Jeter around the team this season at all, you can’t fault the guy to want to go enjoy some of his life outside of the game for the time being.
