Charlotte Hornets struggling shooting guard Lance Stephenson said that it would “be a blessing” to play for the Brooklyn Nets.

Lance Stephenson signed a very lucrative deal with the Charlotte Hornets this past offseason, and has been nothing but a disappointment to this point in the season. Unfortunately, there isn’t much that the Hornets can do about it with not much interest being had in him on the trade market. He certainly hasn’t made any friends in Charlotte and didn’t help his cause by talking about playing in Brooklyn.

When asked about what it would be like playing with the Brooklyn Nets, he responded and said that it would “be a blessing.” Those comments aren’t what Hornets fans want to hear, especially with him being a complete bust in his first season in Charlotte.

Through the first 38 games that Stephenson has played with the Hornets this season, he has averaged 9.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game.

Those numbers are way down from the production that he put up last season with the Indiana Pacers. He was considered a young star in the making with the Pacers, but that has to do with the freedom they gave him and the system that he was in.

“It would be a blessing (to play in Brooklyn),” Stephenson said. “But right now, Charlotte, that’s what I’m doing right now.”

Stephenson also talked about what he needs to do to get his career back on track after his slow start this season.

“I’m just trying to get my mind off of basketball, go to my neighborhood and get my hunger back,” Stephenson said. “With me, it’s all mental. I feel like once I get mentally into it, coming back to get that hunger. Cause sometimes you lose your hunger. You’ve been doing it for so long you forget all the hard work that got you here. So I’m just getting back on that, getting focused.”

At 24 years-old, there is plenty of time for him to get his season back on track. The Hornets aren’t going to bench him yet, but he needs to begin showing them something.

Charlotte has the talent to make a run in the playoffs, but they’ll need everything playing well together. Stephenson showed last year with Indiana that he is more than capable of rising up to the challenge, but he has to get back to the energy and showmanship that made him special last year. If he does that, then he might be a major factor for the Hornets down the stretch of the season.
