Next Friday the 13th film may get into Jason’s back story
By Phil Watson
The last time Jason Voorhees graced the big screen was in 2009’s Friday the 13th reboot, but plans are afoot for a sequel that might finally answer the big question.
Twelve films, countless dumb jocks and screaming co-eds slashed, the protagonist ended in many violent and bizarre ways only to come back yet again.
And the one question the Friday the 13th movie franchise—the original or the reboot—has never answered: Why in the hell can’t Jason Voorhees just stay dead already?

I mean, dude has been sliced to death by Corey Feldman, drowned in Manhattan, sent to Hell and, oddly enough, burned up in the atmosphere of an alien planet.
But like a really psycho version of the Energizer Bunny, he just keeps going … and going … and going …
We may get an answer why in a still-in-the-discussion-phase follow up to 2009’s reboot Friday the 13th, according to the producer of that film, Brad Fuller.
According to Esquire, there are plans for a film, development is happening and they have both a release date and an open window for shooting this fall.
But after the $20 million film was a modest hit with a $65 million box office, something happened to horror—Paranormal Activity delivered the screams and the ticket buyers on a tiny budget—U.S. box office sales of almost $108 million on a budget of a mere $15,000.
So Fuller’s Platinum Dunes is teaming up with Blumhouse Productions—producers of Paranormal Activity—for a second Friday the 13th film.
And as to that big question?
“There’s always been this supernatural aspect to these movies,” Fuller said. “It defies logic that you see Jason get killed in every movie, including ours—the 2009 one. And then he comes back and no one’s every really investigated what that is.
“So that’s something that I think about a little bit. Like it is supernatural, but what is he? Those are the things we’re toying with. Nothing has been decided. But those type of things: How does he always come back?”
The reason Fuller thinks it will work is the natural curiosity of the audience.
“People traditionally want to understand exactly how and why things happen and yet something so odd happens at the end of these movies and no one seems to question it.
“So people come to the movie with the expectation that the real villain will be killed and come back. And we’ve never toyed with that notion. “
The planned release date is May 13, 2016, and we might finally get some damn answers.
