Zach LaVine would take himself over LeBron in a dunk contest
The Minnesota Timberwolves rookie thinks he can take down the Cavaliers’ superstar in a dunk contest
Zach LaVine had one of the most impressive dunk contest victories in quite some time. All night, the Timberwolves rookie was getting major air above the rim and throwing down some ferocious slams. After his victory in the contest, LaVine talked about competing against the league’s best player, LeBron James.

When it comes to taking on LeBron in a Slam Dunk contest, Lavine was very confident he would be the man who would come out on top.
“I never go against my own talent, so I’ve got to say me,” LaVine said to “SportsCenter” after his victory.
LaVine is only 19-years old and has some serious explosiveness, while James is getting older. At the same time, LaVine gave LeBron respect and knows he can still throw it down too.
“I know LeBron’s got some stuff that he ain’t showed the world, either,” LaVine said in the interview with ESPN. “LeBron’s one of the most freaky athletes of all time … But like I said, I’m a confident person.”
In an interview with his old Miami Heat teammate Dwyane Wade, LeBron admitted that he regrets not competing in a previous dunk contest when he was younger.
"It’s been some years where I said I was going to do it and didn’t do it. And then actually watching the dunk contest, I was mad at myself, because I believe it would have been great. Now, at this point, I’m over the hill now. You ain’t going to see my no time soon. It’s over with. It’s been some years where I said I was going to do it and didn’t do it. With the greats having participated in dunk contests before, it would have made sense for LeBron to compete in one during his career. There is still time to as LeBron is sitting at 30 and still throws down some big dunks, but it seems nearly impossible that it would ever happen..
With LaVine having the ability and explosiveness that he does, could LeBron pose a challenge to the rookie? Will LeBron take up the challenge? If the NBA wanted huge ratings for their All-Star Saturday night, LeBron vs LaVine would be amazing for the league and fans alike.
For all basketball fans, it’s something to dream about. Just don’t get your hopes up.
