Charles Tillman has had an amazing career, but he wants to win a championship more than anything else.
There haven’t been many cornerbacks in the past decade better than Charles Tillman. The definition of a true ball-hawk and a true gamer, Tillman has had an illustrious NFL career. Tillman is a two-time Pro Bowler, a first-team All Pro member, and he was even named the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2013. Tillman will be 34 years-old when the 2015 NFL season rolls around, but he’s no longer chasing awards. Tillman is playing for one reason and one reason only and that is to win a championship.
In an interview with USA Today, Tillman, who is set to be a free agent this offseason, talked about his career and what he is looking for.
“I love the game. I’m not going to stop ’til I’m dead,” Tillman said. “Obviously, I can’t play until I’m like 50 or 60. But I just want to keep going. I’m feeling good. I just have unfinished business. I want a championship. I think that’s my main reason [to keep playing]: I’m hungry for a championship.”
Considering the Chicago Bears are in a complete rebuild after finishing the year with a 5-11 record and their quarterback situation not being clear, the Bears may not be the team for Tillman if he wants to win the a championship. Tillman told USA Today that he would play for all 32 teams. However, he has a preference to play for a contender.
In the past two seasons, Tillman has had problems staying healthy and obviously, teams will look into his injury history before signing him, but Tillman believes that teams won’t have any problems signing him to a deal.
“I think my resume speaks for itself,” he siad. “All 10 years of playing (through) multiple injuries — it takes a lot to keep me off (the field). But this one, I couldn’t go because I couldn’t protect myself.”
If Tillman does want to win a Super Bowl, he will need to be on a team that will contend immediately. The fact of the matter is that Tillman is no longer the player he once was and his clock in this league is ticking. However, Tillman states that he will play in the NFL until he dies and that will intrigue many NFL teams.
