The Green Bay Packers have released tight end Brandon Bostick, who is most well-known for the infamous bobble on the onside kick recovery against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game.

Brandon Bostick was supposed to block on the Green Bay Packers’ onside kick recovery against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game. He was supposed to block so that a player with better hands could recover the kick and likely clinch the Packers’ place in Super Bowl 49.

Unfortunately, Bostick decided to make the play himself and ended up costing the Packers the game. Granted, it wasn’t his fault entirely that the Packers lost, but he was a big part of the reason. He bobbled the ball and it was picked up by the Seahawks which set them up to tie the game and win it in overtime.

Just a few weeks following the conclusion of the Packers’ season, the team has released Bostick.

It is a move that most Packers fans have been calling for since the play happened, and it was only a matter of time before they got their wish. Bostick wasn’t a key for the Packers all season long, and he signed his death warrant with that type of blunder on such a big stage.

Bostick finished his two-year stint with the Packers and ended up catching nine passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns in those two seasons. They aren’t terrible numbers, but they certainly aren’t good either. He was always behind other tight ends, and never made the type of improvements that the coaching staff was looking to see from him.

This is a very unfortunate situation for Bostick to be in, as it might very well end his NFL career. He hasn’t made many plays or opened many eyes, and the biggest thing he’s known for is losing a championship game for his team.

There may be some teams that show interest in him as a depth signing, but there won’t be much more than that in Bostick’s future.

There have been quite a couple fan pleasing changes already this offseason for the Packers. Mike McCarthy also gave up his play-calling duties, which is something that fans have been calling for since the Packers went conservative against the Seawhawks rather than stepping on their throats and finishing the game out.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see whether or not Bostick finds another team willing to give him a contract following his mistake last season.
