A list of the top scorers in the UEFA Champions League

The list below is a detailed account of the top scorers prior to the round of 16 games. I’m sure you’ll agree that the standings will look a little different come the end of the competition. For example, Luiz Adriano plays for a team that are heavily favored to be knocked out in this round.  If they get knocked out, which they are almost certain to do, then the players who remain in the tournament have a potential 5 more games than the Brazilian to notch up some more goals.

It won’t come as a surprise to you that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are favorite to finish 1st and 2nd on the list. They are both incredible players, but more than that; they both play for incredible teams that will most likely go very far in the competition.

An outside bet for top goal scorer is Arjen Robben. He doesn’t even feature on the list of players below as he only has two goals, and I decided to only highlight the players with 3 or more. Arjen would be a nice little bet because he plays for Bayern Munich who are very likely to walk all over Shakhtar Donetsk.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that the German team could win both games of the tie by three, four or even five goals. Who is likely to score most of those goals? Robben. Following the round of 16 Bayern are tied favorites to win the tournament, meaning our man Robben would have five more games in which to rack up his tally. Just some food for thought.
