Wes Welker intends to play in 2015

Wes Welker intends to play in 2015.
After multiple concussions in the 2013 season, Wes Welker decided to return to the NFL in 2014. In the third preseason game, Welker suffered another concussion, which was his third in 10 months. Despite that, concussions were not the reason that kept him back at the start of the 2014 season. Welker violated the NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy and he was suspended for the first four games of the season. However, the policy was changed and Welker only had to sit out for the first two games of the season.

Even though Welker was healthy for much of the 2014 season, the Denver Broncos seemed to move on from him as his usage in the offense wasn’t as needed with players like Emmanuel Sanders and C.J. Anderson having even bigger roles. In 14 games in 2014, Welker caught 49 passes out of 64 targets for 464 receiving yards and two touchdowns. After his worst statistical season since his rookie season in 2005, it was reported that Welker was considering retirement.
However, Welker made it clear that his intentions were to play for the 2015 season.
According to Pro Football Talk, Welker intends to play in 2015, even though his contract with the Broncos expires on March 10. Welker texted Mike Klis of the Denver Post about his intentions for the 2015 season.
"“Just getting ready for 2015,”"
When asked about the report contemplating retirement, Welker responded saying it wasn’t true.
"“Never ever came out of my mouth,”"
Despite Welker saying he will return in 2015, many teams will do their due diligence on his concussion concerns before signing him. This will likely be the reason why many teams steer clear of Welker. With the Broncos using him less in 2014 and a guy like Cody Latimer expected to make a bigger impact in his second year, it looks as if the Broncos won’t bring back Welker.
When the 2015 season rolls around, Welker will be 34 years old. Although his body has a ton of wear-and-tear on it considering he has made his living as a slot receiver, a few teams in need of some extra receiving weaponry will be interested in Welker’s services. He may be getting older and older, but Welker still has a future in this league and one team will be willing to take a flyer on him before he retires.
