Washington Wizards point guard John Wall offered advice to Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III about criticism.

Washington Wizards point guard John Wall and Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III have something in common. There’s always been a lot on their shoulders. John Wall was picked first overall in the 2010 NBA Draft and tasked with taking over a struggling Wizards team, while Griffin III was selected second overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Both players are talented, but have their flaws and have faced enormous criticism on and off the field and with social media.

In an interview with New York’s Hot 97 Morning Show co-host Peter Rosenberg, John Wall said that he ‘deals with [criticism] all the time’ including last week when he missed a game-winning three pointer against Toronto.

“Everybody say, ‘Well, why you taking the game-winning shot? Well, why you get to play?’ I’m cool with that. I have the confidence and believe in my ability to do certain things,” Wall said.

When talking to Rosenberg about Robert Griffin III, Wall said that he had texted with Griffin III just the other day and they talked about social media criticisms.

“What I told [Griffin] is you can’t judge people on what their opinion is,” Wall said. “All you can do is focus on trying to get better. He said, ‘Appreciate the words of encouragement. All I’m going to do is try to get better and bring the city back to my side.’ And that’s all you can do. As long as you know you’re giving 110 percent effort on that field and between those lines, can’t nobody criticize you.”

Robert Griffin III had a tough season with Washington after he was carted off the field in week two with an ankle injury, only to return and play in an on-and-off role against other Washington quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy. Griffin III went 2-5 as a starter in 2014 and his team finished 4-12, at the bottom of the NFC East division.
