New Chicago Bears head coach John Fox didn’t commit to Jay Cutler as his starting quarterback when answering questions from the media.
There has been quite a bit of surrounding Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler all season long, and fans are pretty fed up with the type of performance that he showed them last year.
A new era of football has started in Chicago with the hiring of new head coach John Fox and offensive coordinator Adam Gase, but Fox wouldn’t commit to starting Cutler in 2015 when asked the question directly.
John Fox on whether he has decided to proceed with Jay Cutler as QB: "We're not up against a deadline. ...We'll keep you posted."

During the 2014 season, Cutler was extremely inconsistent but was unfortunately very consistent with his interception numbers. He ended the season with solid numbers, throwing for 3,812 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. That being said, his numbers were nowhere near what they should have been with all of the weapons that the Bears gave him.

Not many quarterbacks have the comfort of throwing to targets like Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett. Matt Forte in the backfield is another piece that should help Cutler and take pressure off of his shoulders.
Cutler is 31 years old now, and he is getting to the point in his career where he needs to show the Bears something. Fox isn’t the type of coach to mess around with, and he won’t hesitate to bench Cutler if he doesn’t seen what he wants from him. It will be very interesting to see what type of system changes Fox and Gase make, and whether or not it helps Cutler.
One thing is for sure, the Bears are going to look for a quality backup quarterback.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see them go out and bring Josh McCown in once again after he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this offseason. He had a big season in relief of Cutler during the 2013 season, and is one of the best free agent quarterbacks on the market.
All of that being said, Cutler needs to make some noise this offseason and early on in the regular season. He cannot afford to start slow if he wants to continue being the starting quarterback in Chicago.
The Bears truly believe that they can make the leap back into the playoffs in 2015, but they will need their passing game to live up to expectations. There aren’t many defenses that can match up with all of the firepower that the Bears possess on offense, unless the quarterback doesn’t perform up to standards.
There will be plenty of pressure on Cutler’s shoulders during the 2015 season.
