The Philadelphia Eagles will do “whatever it takes” to get Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota in the 2015 NFL Draft.

There are plenty of talented prospects preparing for the 2015 NFL Draft, but there is no position more interesting at the top of the draft than at quarterback. Both Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are competing to be the top quarterback taken, but as of right now it appears that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prefer Winston.

That being said, the Philadelphia Eagles want to draft Marcus Mariota and are willing to do “whatever it takes” to acquire him, according to Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane.

If you’re wondering why the Eagles would want to acquire Mariota so bad when they already have a solid quarterback in Nick Foles, look no further than their head coach. Chip Kelly is the real driving force behind the Eagles pursuing Mariota. He would be a solid fit for the Eagles, and knows the offense already.

During his three seasons with Oregon, Mariota ended up throwing for 10,706 yards, 105 touchdowns, and just 16 interceptions.

Needless to say, the interception number is very impressive for a quarterback that was used so much. He also ran for 2,237 yards and 29 touchdowns. Mariota would be an ideal fit for the type of offense that the Eagles run, but whether or not he is going to end up being a good NFL quarterback is another story.

More than likely he will end up doing just fine throughout his NFL career, but it is still a risk. In order to move up high enough to draft Mariota, the Eagles would have to give up a lot.

It is certainly an intriguing possibility for the Eagles, but they have to decide whether or not it is worth it. Foles broke his collarbone and missed a good chunk of last season, but he has still shown flashes of being a very good quarterback himself. Mariota has the potential to become a star in the NFL, but Foles has star potential of his own.

The NFL Draft is going to be very intriguing this year. Mariota is just one of the players that could become a superstar, but he is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and had a huge statistical season in 2014. Philadelphia needs to be very careful that they don’t overpay in this situation like the Washington Redskins did for Robert Griffin III.

Mariota might end up being the best move that the Eagles made, but he could also turn out to be a bust and one of the worst moves that the franchise ever made.
