NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks considering signing Larry Sanders
By Josh Hill
The Milwaukee Bucks have bought out Larry Sanders, and the Dallas Mavericks are cautiously keeping an eye on his situation.
When the Milwaukee Bucks bought out Larry Sanders, it wasn’t because he couldn’t play it was because he was refusing to play for them. His mental health was called into question and it was made apparent that he has off-court issues he needs to work out.

That’s something that teams are keeping an eye on now that he has been bought out, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t any interest in him. The Cleveland Cavaliers have been keeping an eye on Sanders but so too have the Dallas Mavericks.
According to Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com, the Mavericks are keeping an eye on Sanders situation but are doing so very cautiously.
"So of course they have some interest in a freakishly athletic 26-year-old center who is available only two seasons removed from being a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate. But the Mavs’ interest in Larry Sanders, based on conversations with team sources, is best described as cautious and complicated."
There was interest in Larry Sanders last year from the Dallas Mavericks, but they weren’t willing to give up a top draft pick for him. Sanders then injured his foot, taking him out of action and out of trade rumors for the rest of that season, but he’s right back in the thick of things following his buyout.
If the Mavericks were to move on Sanders, they would need to open up another roster spot. They just released Ricky Ledo to open up a spot for Amare Stoudemire, whom they signed after he was bought out by the Knicks.
It’s not a situation that the Mavericks will be leaping at, but it’s something worth keeping an eye on. The Cleveland Cavaliers have interest in Sanders, which could force the Mavericks hand if their own interest is any sort of serious. Sanders has problems he needs to work out off the court, but the Mavericks are retaining interest in him, even if it’s at a distance for now.
