The Indiana Pacers want to either acquire Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic before the deadline, or trade one of their big salaried veterans in order to sign him this offseason.

Goran Dragic is one of the hottest names in the NBA right now in trade rumors, and the Indiana Pacers are one team that would like to bring him on board. Whether they acquire him ahead of tomorrow’s trade deadline or sign him this coming offseason, they want to find a way to bring Dragic onto their roster.

According to a report from Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report, the Pacers are interested in moving one of their bigger salaried veteran players in order to clear cap space for this offseason to sign Dragic.

Indiana has been rumored to be interested in Dragic since last offseason, when they were rumored to be offering a deal surrounding Roy Hibbert to the Phoneix Suns. He would be a huge pickup for the Pacers, and would upgrade the one position that the Pacers have needed help at. There is no doubt that he will be expensive, but he is well worth the money.

Bucher reported that the Pacers are open to dealing just about anyone but Paul George to make room for Dragic. The two players that he mentioned in particular are David West and George Hill, although Roy Hibbert could also be dealt as well if need be.

Larry Bird is going to be a very busy man leading up to tomorrow’s 3 p.m. trade deadline, and there is no doubt that he is on the phone with the Suns about a potential Dragic trade.

That being said, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports has reported that the Pacers are leaning towards standing pat at the trade deadline. Obviously these two reports conflict each other, which is just about right for the Pacers. They never seem to show their cards in trade talks, and Bird has been known to make trades out of the blue.

Dragic has averaged 16.2 points, 4.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game this season. He would be a very nice complement alongside of Paul George, and at 28 years old still has plenty of high level basketball left in him.

Don’t be surprised if the Pacers pull off a trade prior to the deadline. They are serious about Dragic, and this report from Bucher shows just how serious they are. Even if they don’t acquire Dragic directly from the Suns, they could look to trade one of their higher paid players in an attempt to clear cap space for the coming offseason.
