The NBA trade deadline is in 24 hours, and the Washington Wizards have emerged as surprise suitors of Miami Heat guard Norris Cole.

The Miami Heat and Washington Wizards may very well meet up in the first round of the Eastern Conference postseason, but they could become trade partners well before then. Norris Cole, the Heat guard who appears to be on the outs in South Beach, is on the block and the Wizards are interested in getting him on their roster.

There’s only one thing that can hold up a trade though, and that’s a massively high asking price from Pat Riley and the Miami Heat. Guess what is holding up a Norris Cole-to-Washington trade — you guessed it, a high asking price in return.

According to Shams Charania from Real GM, the Wizards have asked about Norris Cole but haven’t made any progress thanks to the high asking price the Heat are demanding in return for the guard.

The Wizards interest in Norris Cole is interesting in that he’d be playing behind John Wall at the point and behind Bradley Beal at the two. But having Cole as an option off the bench or even as a Sixth Man is something that makes the Wizards small but dangerous in the postseason.

He’s not adding much height or defensive prowess to the Wizards, but Washington would have a three-headed beast in the backcourt to roll with and that’s a potential scoring monster that few teams will want to deal with.

They may not have to though, as the Heat want too much for Cole in return and a deal that sends him to Washington — or anywhere else — seems unlikely at best.
