If Miles Plumlee gets traded will he be a must add in fantasy basketball?

It is looking like the Phoenix Suns are going to be a busy team this week. Word has is that they are interested in trading away Miles Plumlee and now the word is that they will grant the trade request for Goran Dragic. If traded, I would expect both players to wind up with increased value and that should also increase the value of Eric Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas, Alex Len and Brandan Wright. We will discuss just what leagues I would add them in later.

  • The Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and L.A. Lakers are all said to be interested in Dragic. Dragic, is in my opinion, a very good NBA point guard and should step in and boost his averages wherever he lands. Any of those three teams would almost certainly slate him in right away as a starter and he would likely see anywhere from 32-36 minutes per game. I would expect that his scoring numbers might take a hit with Houston or Sacramento, but would most likely be made up with a huge boost in assist numbers.

For Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas, I would expect both of their numbers to rise as well. My guess is Thomas should be the big winner in any Goran Dragic deal. His ESPN ownership is at 68.7% so there is a slim chance you could find him floating around on a few waiver wires. If so, don’t hesitate to get him on your roster. Thomas is the kind of waiver wire addition that can and might win you your league. I was fortunate enough to add him in a 10 team league a few weeks ago and held tight expecting to see something happen in Phoenix.

If Miles Plumlee is dealt, I would expect that he will be the big winner in that deal. He has really gotten the short end of the stick in Phoenix this year, and has not really been worthy of standard league roster spots. If you have a spot to burn in 12 team leagues and higher, Plumlee could be a decent add just on a purely speculative basis, but I would not cut anyone who is producing at a decent clip.

Brandan Wright would likely see a decent boost in minutes and should get around 25 or so a game. I would probably consider that he should be rostered in 14 teams and larger leagues. He is not really a high upside guy, but he could get you around 8 points and 8 rebounds with a block or so a game with 25 minutes a night. That might be pushing it a little bit, but he should be able to get you that block, so for cats league guys there is a pretty cheap source for blocks.

Alex Len becomes a bit intriguing here if Plumlee is shipped out-of-town. I would consider adding him in 12 team leagues as he was putting up some decent numbers over a stretch earlier this season as he finally started to show some small signs of upside. I do not really think that I would cut anyone who is doing good right now for any of these big men, but there is a possibility that either Wright or Len could wind up as the person with the larger share of minutes. Of course there also is the chance that the Suns could take on a big man when Dragic departs that renders both Len and Wright useless. There really has been no serious talks reported for Plumlee, so just keep that one in the back of your mind and be ready to act accordingly.
