The New York Jets are still weighing their options for wide receiver Percy Harvin and his contract.
Midway through the NFL season, even though they had really nothing going for them, the New York Jets decided to trade for Percy Harvin. Now, if it was the 2011, the trade would’ve been real nice for the Jets. However, trading for a guy who had really seen his better days did not make much sense, even though the trade didn’t cost much. Granted, the Jets gave up just one conditional draft pick. However, the main problem with the trade was the contract they would be taking on until the end of the 2019 season.

Although Harvin can be a game-changer when he’s healthy, the fact of the matter is that he hasn’t been healthy since the 2013. Despite his health issues, the Jets are still open to the idea of bringing him back.
According to SI.com, the Jets are mulling over their options on whether or not to keep Harvin. However, considering the draft pick the Jets would give to the Seattle Seahawks is conditional, it should be said that if the Jets keep Harvin past March 19, they will send the Seahawks a fourth-round pick. If they keep Harvin past that date, they will send a sixth-round pick instead.
If the Jets keep Harvin, they will be paying a player top money that doesn’t give top production. Considering Harvin will be on contract for another four seasons, the Jets would be paying him $41,500,000 if he stayed until then. Considering Harvin only played in eight games for the Jets last season and he only caught 29 passes for 350 yards and a touchdown, it was goes without saying that Harvin isn’t worth the money and with the Jets likely to take a quarterback in the upcoming draft, it could take awhile before Harvin gets passes thrown to him from a developed quarterback.
On the right team and in the right scheme, Harvin can make an impact, but in an offense with so many questions like New York’s, paying so much money to an over-the-hill player does not make sense at all. Basically, for Harvin to return to his older self, the Jets will need to pray that he stays healthy and given his history in the past few seasons, the chances of that happening are extremely slim. The Jets would be wise to cut Harvin before the deadline. Giving up a sixth-round pick isn’t bad at all in this case when you take in the count the future implications Harvin’s deal.
