In what may be the most symbolic trade of the NBA trade deadline, the Minnesota Timberwolves appear in talks to acquire former star Kevin Garnett in a three-team deal.

The NBA trade deadline is this afternoon and there are deals cooking all over the league. At the moment, it appears that the Reggie Jackson trade is the big story of the hour, as the Nets and Thunder are in talks to swap players and send Jackson out east.

But they’re not the only team spinning in the rumor mill, as the Minnesota Timberwolves are being mentioned with perhaps them most interesting and sentimental trade of the season.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Kevin Garnett could be heading home to Minnesota as part of the Reggie Jackson trade to Brooklyn. The Nets and Thunder need a third team in the trade and may end up with four if the Philadelphia 76ers become involved as well.

There is the matter of Garnett’s no-trade clause being waived that must be addressed, but that’s something he may be open to doing. If Garnett waived his no-trade clause and returned to the Timberwolves, it would be a symbolic gesture of his career coming full circle.

He began his career in Minnesota back in the 1990s and even took the team to the Western Conference Finals in early 2000s. But he didn’t reach his full potential until being traded to the Boston Celtics where he collected his championship he so longed to achieve.

There have been talks of Garnett being interested in taking up part ownership of the Wolves, and being traded back — with former head coach Flip Saunders in charge — could be the mending of the fence move that sees Garnett once again embrace basketball in Minnesota.
