The New York Knicks want to acquire Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic, and their trade offer includes a package surrounding Tim Hardaway Jr. and Jose Calderon.

Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks are sitting at 10-43 so far this season, and it doesn’t need to be vocalized that it has been an absolutely embarrassment for the franchise. They thought that they could content with the roster that came into the season, but obviously that didn’t end up being the case.

Now, the Knicks are looking to make some moves at the trade deadline to make some improvements for next season.

According to a report from Chris Broussard, the Knicks are trying to acquire Phoenix Suns point guard Goran Dragic ahead of the trade deadline. They are on the short list that Dragic wants to be traded to, and they are offering a deal surrounding Tim Hardaway Jr. and point guard Jose Calderon.

That offer is a very intriguing offer to say the least, but it just doesn’t sound like enough for what the Suns want. Perhaps the Knicks are putting more into the offer, but the Suns won’t have much use for Calderon. Hardaway would be a solid pickup, but that isn’t enough to net Dragic alone.

Hardaway has averaged 11.1 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He has shot just 38.5 percent from the floor overall and 33.6 percent from behind the three-point arc. Those numbers are a bit concerning, but a change of scenery would be good for the second-year shooting guard out of Michigan.

As for Calderon, he is a very solid point guard that has the ability to be a game managing backup for the Suns if they acquire him. He has averaged 9.3 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game.

While both of those players would be very solid pickups, Dragic is by far the best player in the deal. He has averaged 16.2 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.

New York would be wise to make a trade for Dragic if they can get an agreement with him on an extension. They can’t afford to trade away talent for a player that could end up walking away in free agency this coming offseason. If they can get that long-term deal done with Dragic, then they need to do what it takes to get him.

Carmelo Anthony needs a legitimate running mate, and that is exactly what Dragic would be able to bring to the Knicks.
