Phoenix Suns trade Isaiah Thomas to Boston Celtics
By Josh Hill
The Boston Celtics have acquired guard Isaiah Thomas from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for a gaggle of picks and players.
The Phoenix Suns went from being chumps at the trade deadline to the team that seemingly held the linchpin to the craziest and busiest trade deadline we’ve seen in recent years in the NBA. Goran Dragic was just the first part of many trades that went down in the 11th hour of the NBA trade deadline, and he wasn’t the only Suns guard to be moved.
After initial reports that Isaiah Thomas was on his way to the 76ers, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Boston Celtics were the final destination for Thomas and not Philly.
IN the end, the haul for the Suns was pretty incredible as outside of the Goran Dragic deal and the Brandon Knight trade, Phoenix acquired a first-round pick from the Celtics as well as Marcus Thornton for Isaiah Thomas.
This is why people love the trade deadline and it’s also how front offices save jobs. The Suns were in a terrible spot after Dragic nuked their leverage in trade talks and they have come out looking pretty. The levees didn’t break until five minutes before the deadline was set to pass and the trade season was going to expire, but the Suns managed to save face and then-some.
The next question now though is what do they do at guard? They traded away Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas but acquired Brandon Knight, Marcus Thornton and shipped off every single guard they had just hours before.
