Russell Wilson takes responsibility for Seahawks’ Super Bowl loss (Video)
By Ryan Lehrman
In a new video from The Player’s Tribune, Russell Wilson discusses his state of mind in the wake of the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl 2015 defeat.
Almost three weeks after the haunting final play that caused the Seattle Seahawks to lose Super Bowl XLIX, quarterback Russell Wilson once again noted that the burden of defeat rests on his shoulders.
“Super Bowl 49, I take full responsibility for it. One of the reasons why I always will and always do is because I know it’s going to happen again for me,” Wilson said in the interview for Players’ Tribune. “I know that I’m gonna be in that situation again. The hardest thing about that game was to be able to walk off that field and all those fans and feel like you let them down.”
However, instead of dwelling on the moment that cost his team the Lombardi Trophy, Wilson said he sets his sights on improving and returning to the field stronger next season.
“The only thing you can look forward to is the next opportunity that you’ll have.”

It is a polar opposite approach of the Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots, who have a tainted reputation in the eyes of fans and, of course, the media for not accepting responsibility for deflate-gate.
The Seahawks QB wasn’t the only person to own up to the botched final play. Immediately following the loss, Seattle head coach Carroll said he pinned the blame on himself for calling the passing play in the first place.
It says a lot about the franchise that not only one person, but several tiers of the organization hold themselves accountable for their shortcomings.
“Hopefully I’ll be remembered for something different,” Wilson said with a smile.
