Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard admits that he wants to manage Liverpool someday

Steven Gerrard was forced to sit out when his side played against Besiktas in their Europa League game due to a hamstring injury. He used his free time to do some commentary for British TV Station ITV and had some interesting things to say.

He told the ITV panel that he has always dreamed of managing Liverpool, and knows that he would have to prove himself in order to one day get the job.

"“It has always been a dream of mine…”It is not just about saying you want to be it, you have to go out and prove yourself.”"

The Liverpool legend is set to leave his boyhood club for the sunshine of LA and MLS side LA Galaxy when this season comes to an end. It could be a fairy tale end to his magnificent Liverpool career as the FA cup final falls on his 35th birthday, and would be the last fixture in Liverpool’s season if they were to reach the final. The reds are set to play Blackburn in the Quarter finals of the cup on the 8th of March.

Gerrard went on to say that he isn’t worried about his managing career just yet, and admits it’s a long way away.

"“It is a long way away, I am just focused on playing for now.”"

Gerrard witnessed his team snatch victory in the dying minutes of the game thanks to a Mario Balotelli penalty. They will take a one goal lead in to their second leg with the Turkish side next week. The captain is set to still be out for the return fixture, but Liverpool have one foot in the round of 16.

There was also a bit of controversy in the Europa League game as Liverpool’s striker Mario Balotelli took the ball away from captain of the day Jordan Henderson in order to take the penalty. Gerrard claimed the Italian striker showed disrespect for his vice captain Henderson.
