Byron Scott will not last the season as the Los Angeles Lakers coach.
This may not exactly be a bold prediction.
Scott’s coaching has been nothing short of inexplicable this year for the Lakers. His lineups make no sense, he’s failed to produce enough defense for even the tools his measly roster provides and he has refused to play Jeremy Lin despite the fact that Lin has been far more efficient than most of the team’s other guards.
The Lakers are playing a lot of young players right now, guys like Ed Davis and Jordan Clarkson, who may benefit from continuity at least in their first year in the league.
But pressure for a franchise that is used to winning may end up being too much for management to decide to keep Scott. This team is unsure if it plans to tank or compete.
With Kobe Bryant no longer playing this season, it may be time to allow the Lakers’ younger players to get time on the court in favor of immediate competitiveness. But the Lakers will pull the plug on Scott before the season is up.
