‘The Jack and Triumph Show’ premieres tonight

Jack McBrayer and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog team up in new show on Cartoon Network

As far as nicotine addictedwisecracking dog puppets go, none are better than Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. As far as playing an effeminate page on former hit sitcom 30 Rock goes, you’ll be hard pressed to find someone more talented than Jack McBrayer. Mix both with the the brilliant minds behind Cartoon Network’s late night franchise Adult Swim, and you get tonight’s The Jack and Triumph Show.

Sounds random? Not really, McBrayer and Triumph have worked together before on Conan where they proved to be a winning comedic combo when they hit Chicago’s renowned hot dog joint, The Weiner Circle.

Creators of the The Jack and Triumph Show are hoping the duo brings the funny again. The premise described by Variety’s TV columnist, Brian Lowry sounds hysterical:

"McBrayer’s Jack was a child star featured in a “Lassie”-like series called “Triumph’s Boy,” in which he played opposite an adorable mutt. But then the family ran through all Jack’s money, and Triumph led him into a life of drugs, decadence and eventually prostitution to make ends meet. After that, Triumph disappeared, at least according to June (June Squibb, the 85-year-old Oscar nominee for “Nebraska,” who becomes a regular source of Betty White-type old-lady jokes), and years later, Jack has resumed something approaching a normal life. Naturally, the dog finally finds his way back home and begins pulling Jack back into showbiz."

Sounds good? You’re damn right.

Who in the hell is June Squibb? You ask. C’mon man!

So many sitcoms these days are worthless, unfunny retreads. You hear me Odd Couple? We’re hoping The Jack and Triumph Show is a weiner, er, winner. The Jack and Triumph Show premieres tonight at 11:30 PM on Adult Swim.
