Marshawn Lynch is a man of few words but if the Seattle Seahawks running back is serious about retirement, then a big chunk of change could speak volumes for one of the best backs in the NFL.

Money talks and for Marshawn Lynch, a man of few words, a new contract is likely to do the talking for the Seahawks starting running back who has mentioned retirement as a possibility, unless he gets a new deal that is.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider said earlier this week that he wouldn’t be surprised if Lynch walks away from the game. But I’d be stunned if Lynch retires when he’s one of the best backs in the league, especially with the team willing to throw millions of dollars at him for him to say he’ll be back.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll spoke from the NFL combine on Friday and said the team is willing to pay the price to keep him happy.

“We’ve had big offers out there,” Carroll said, via NFL.com. “We continue to work with that and we’re excited about the future. He’s been an integral part of our program for five years we love the contributions that he ha€™s brought. He’s a great character in the program and all of that. So we’re excited to move ahead. We’d really like to move with that quickly.”

Lynch is scheduled to make $7 million in 2015 but NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport reported before the Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl that they are willing to pay him as much as $10 million next season.

Making Lynch the second-highest paid running back in the league behind Adrian Peterson should make him forget about any retirement talk. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this linger into the offseason as a way to avoid offseason workouts, but I would be more stunned by Lynch retiring this offseason than if the Chicago Cubs won the World Series this fall.

Lynch had 1,306 yards, his fourth straight season with more than 1,000 yards and led the NFL in touchdowns for the second straight year with 13 rushing scores.
