Marcus Mariota beats Jameis Winston convincingly in 40-yard dash
Marcus Mariota is a step up on Jameis Winston in regards to speed, as Mariota smoked Winston in the 40-yard dash.
It seems that Marcus Mariota has taken round one of his NFL Combine matchup with Jameis Winston.
The two quarterbacks have been linked with each other all year. Both quarterbacks were trying to lead their respective team’s no a National Championship this year, Mariota with the Oregon Ducks and Winston with the Florida State Seminoles. Mariota was able to accomplish getting Oregon to the National Championship game, but ultimately lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The two quarterbacks are heading into the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine as the top two ranked quarterbacks in the draft. Naturally, all eyes will be on how the two quarterbacks matchup against each other during the combine.

We got to see the first matchup in the 40-yard dash, where Mariota absolutely smoked Winston.
Mariota ran an unofficial time of 4.52 seconds, whole Winston’s fastest time recorded was 4.97. I think most people expected Mariota to edge out Winston in the 40-yard dash, but not by such a huge margin. In comparison, Hobart College offensive lineman Ali Marpet posted a 4.98 40-yard dash, which was the fastest time recorded among all offensive lineman.
So, it seems Jamies is a bit on a slow side regarding the 40-yard dash.
We’ll see how the two quarterback fair against each other during the rest of the quarterback drills, as both will be throwing during this combine. Of course, neither player will be able to address their biggest questions during this combine.
The biggest question surround Mariota will be whether or not his game will translate to the NFL. Oregon ran a very college-friendly type offense that teams in the NFL don’t use, so there are questions concerning whether Mariota will have success in the NFL. Winston on the other hand, did run an NFL style offense at Florida State, which is why all the draft experts have him ranked higher than Mariota overall. Still, there are questions concerning Winston’s attitude and behavior that may get him in trouble in the NFL.
It will be difficult for Mariota to overtake Winston in the draft ranking, but, at least in regards to speed, he seems to have a leg up on Winston.
