The Miami Heat announced Chris Bosh will miss the remainder of the season with blood clots on his lung.

Chris Bosh will miss the remainder of the season while he receives treatment for blood clots on his lung, the Miami Heat announced on Saturday afternoon.

“Bosh, who is receiving care under the guidance of Miami Heat team physicians at a Baptist Health System Hospital, is currently resting comfortably. Chris is OK and his prognosis is good,” the Heat said in a statement on their team’s official website.

The news comes one day after it was feared Bosh would be lost for the remainder of the season after he went to the hospital on Thursday with discomfort in his chest, but Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the condition is not life-threatening.

Despite Spoelstra saying the condition is not life-threatening, it is at the very least very unsettling, especially considering former NBA big man, Jerome Kersey suddenly passed away at the age of 52 on Wednesday of a blood clot in his lung.

In addition to the medication used to treat blood clots, ESPN.com reports six months of limited physical activity is required, so the timeline would put Bosh out of any sort of basketball activity until mid-late August. At the earliest, that would give him a few weeks to get back into basketball condition and try to resume his basketball career with the Heat.

The best news here is that Bosh has a good prognosis, but this puts a damper on the afternoon after they introduced Goran Dragic to the media after trading for him at the trade deadline earlier this week.

Obviously, basketball news pales in comparison when you’re talking about a life-altering diagnosis like blood clots on your lung, but the Heat will have to adapt without the All-Star power forward.

Udonis Haslem will continue to start in his place and Luol Deng could slide to the 4 in certain lineups, but look for the team to possibly sign former NBA big man Andray Blatche who has been playing in China to help fill the void.

Bosh is averaging 21.1 points and 7.0 rebounds this season.
