The 1980 USA Hockey team who stunned Soviet Union, and the world, reunited today in Lake Placid to celebrate its 35th Anniversary.

The folks who were there during the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid to this day still say you had to be there to believe it.

Not until Al Michaels provided his legendary “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!” call, Americans didn’t think it could happen.

Do yourself a great favor today and re-watch the final minute of the frenzied action:

Today, we not only celebrate the fact that it did happen, but 35 years worth of realizing that it was one of the very special collections in sports history: the 1980 Team USA Men’s Hockey Team.

The remaining members of that team gathered at the scene of the Russian crime to celebrate the 35 anniversary of the momentous event.

Via the Associated Press:

"“It feels exactly the same,” Dave Christian said from the Herb Brooks Arena, told Sandy Caligiore. “You could feel the electricity in the (locker) room. It’s still there.”"

Excitement is hardly the word. Disbelief rang true for everyone involved.

The Americans weren’t even viewed as heavy underdogs, they were children in comparison to the Soviet Union team that trained year round and brought professionals to the dance.

Not only was it an incredible moment for sports, as Team USA won the Semi-Final matchup by the final of 4-3, but it united a country during a period of uneasiness.

It wasn’t just a sporting event, it was a game changer for the world in many symbolic ways.
