Kevin Newman swiped home plate to give Arizona a big win over No. 17 Rice
College baseball season is underway and Arizona came away with a wild victory on Saturday. Arizona and No. 17 Rice had a back and forth contest that ended in a way that hasn’t happened too many times. With the score at 6-6, Arizona had runners on second and third with two outs.

Arizona infielder Kevin Newman, standing on third base and 90 feet away from scoring the winning run, decided to take a big chance.
Newman not holding back, took off from third as Rice pitcher Matt Ditman delivered the pitch.
Newman slid head first into home and after deliberation, the umpire ruled Newman safe and Arizona won 7-6 on a walk-off steal.
It’s very rare you see someone trying to steal home, let alone trying to steal home and win the game.
Give credit to Newman, who had the guts to make a big play and a risky one that would’ve sent the game another inning had he been out. Newman has some serious wheels to be able to break 30 yards in the same span of the Ditman’s delivery.
It’s not every day you get to see a walk-off steal.
