DeAndre Hopkins had surgery on his wrist
By Ryan Ratty
At the end of the season, DeAndre Hopkins had wrist surgery.
When the Houston Texans drafted DeAndre Hopkins in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, he was seen as the guy who was the eventually replacement for Andre Johnson. After a solid rookie season, Hopkins was spectacular in his second season in the league. Out of 127 targets, Hopkins caught 76 passes for 1,210 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He also showed the special trait of a deep-ball receiver, as he had a yards per catch average of 15.9.

The amazing thing is that Hopkins did all of this even with subpar quarterback play. Regardless of if it was Ryan Fitzpatrick or Ryan Mallett, Hopkins as well as the Texans had to deal with bad quarterbacks in 2014. However, it truly shows just how special of a player Hopkins is to put up a type of season like he had in 2014 even under the circumstances he was playing with. Although, it was reported earlier today that there was another installment to the Hopkins saga.
According to Pro Football Talk, it was reported that Hopkins had surgery on his wrist at the end of the season. Hopkins was listed on the Week 17 injury report with a wrist injury and although it wasn’t a big thing at the time, Hopkins revealed in an interview with CBS Sports that he had surgery on the right wrist. Hopkins had a pin and rod inserted into his wrist after the season. However, he has worn a cast on it since the surgery. He said the pin and rod were removed today.
While this is something to be aware if you’re a Texans fan, the good news is that he also said that he would be able to return to normal activities in the next few weeks. Hopkins is a stud receiver and he is still gaining notoriety around the league. For him to prove his elite status, he will need to be healthy and while the wrist injury isn’t major, it is something that could nag him over the course of the next few months.
