Alex Rodriguez got a little work in at shortstop on Monday in his first day back with the Yankees
Monday was a pretty significant day in Major League Baseball, if you’re into all of the Alex Rodriguez drama, that is. After serving a year-long suspension for PED use, Rodriguez reported to the Yankees’ minor league facility to begin his preparation for his 2015 return soon.
And not even a full day in, there is already some controversy stirring up. Or not, really, you can take this with a grain of salt.
It still is somewhat significant, however, that after beginning his work in the infield at third base, the position he’s played with the Yankees since he joined the club in 2004, A-Rod also got some work in a shortstop.
Now of course Mr. Matthews from ESPN was being sarcastic with that last sentence there, but that won’t stop people from speculating whether or not a move back to his original position could be coming.
When Derek Jeter originally announced his retirement prior to last season getting underway, people talked about the possibility of A-Rod moving back to short, knowing that he would more than likely be returning back to the club this season. However, that talk took a major hit this offseason when the Yankees acquired Didi Gregorious from the Diamondbacks.
There has also been some controversy surrounding whether or not Rodriguez could even go back to third with the Yankees re-signing Chase Headley, whom the team acquired last season to help make up for the void of A-Rod.
Whatever the case may be, it looks like all potential options are being explored here on the first day that Rodriguez is back in the Yankee fold.
