The Arizona Cardinals have cut Ted Ginn Jr after just one season.

In 2013 with the Carolina Panthers, Ted Ginn Jr had the best season of his NFL career. With Cam Newton at quarterback, the speedy Ohio State product was tremendous and he was a huge reason why the team was one of the best teams in all of football. After a year where he 36 passes for 556 yards and five touchdowns, Ginn Jr cashed in on a three-year deal worth up to $3.25 million a year with the Arizona Cardinals. However, after just one short season with the Cardinals where he was limited in terms of offensive snaps, Ginn Jr officially been released by the Cardinals.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports was the first to report the news. He also stated that even though he would be owed $3.25 million next season, his salary was non-guaranteed.

Before the season, many believed Ginn Jr would flourish in his role. Given Bruce Arians’ vertical offense, it wasn’t a surprise why many people believed that. However, Ginn Jr failed to make much of an impact early on in the season and he ultimately lost his role to rookie John Brown who really is just a better version of Ginn Jr. In 2014, Ginn Jr caught just 14 passes for 190 yards. He was held without a touchdown.

To his credit, Ginn Jr, as well as the Cardinals, were basically handcuffed as Carson Palmer tore his ACL in the beginning of November. Backup Drew Stanton then suffered an MCL sprain, which he was unable to recover from. That led the Cardinals to use Ryan Lindley as their starting quarterback, a guy who had never thrown a touchdown for the first two and a half years of his career.

Considering that the Panthers are in need of playmakers to and Ginn Jr had the best years of his career there, it wouldn’t come as a surprise at all if he does indeed go back to Carolina and play in that offense. When the 2015 season rolls around, Ginn Jr will only be 30 years old. Although he had a poor stint with the Cardinals, it’s not too late for him to turn his career around.
