James Casey plans to meet with many teams
By Ryan Ratty
James Casey has a ton of meetings in place with many teams.
The offensive weapon position is one that is extremely intriguing in the NFL. Whether they make an impact in the backfield, on the outside, or in the slot, offensive weapons usually latch on to a particular NFL offense and they find great success. James Casey was the swiss-army knife for the Philadelphia Eagles, but because of cap implications, Chip Kelly’s bunch was forced to release Casey. At 30 years old, even though Casey is a bit of an oddball when you talk about his role, it should be said that many teams are interested in his services.

According to Pro Football Talk, many teams have been rumored to Casey and given his ability to help an offense in a variety of ways, it’s easy to see why. Even though he was cut less than a week ago, two teams have already reached out to Casey. Per Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Denver Broncos have liked him enough to bring him in on a visit on Thursday. The Arizona Cardinals have also lined up a visit for the Rice product.

Whether he plays fullback or tight end, Casey could very well succeed in both places. In Denver, he will play for an offense that he is extremely familiar with. Gary Kubiak was Casey’s coach when the two spent time together a couple of seasons ago in Denver. With Julius Thomas leaving, Casey could be fit the bill as a versatile pass-catcher. In Arizona, Casey’s role as a fullback would be huge as the Cardinals had one of the worst running games in the league last season. Also, the Cardinals do not really have a tight end, so Casey would be a nice commodity in that role as well.
Although Casey has a ton of value to an offense, the Eagles were unwilling to pay him $4 million a year for the role he would play. For Casey to make the biggest impact, he will need to go to a team that will use him in a variety of unique ways. Given the chemistry he has with the coach, the Broncos are obviously the most ideal landing post for Casey.
